GuideWriting Prompts

Writing Prompts

The prompt input is the starting point for every game. You describe what you want in plain language and Agent8 handles the rest.

The Prompt Input Area

At the bottom of the home screen you’ll find the prompt bar:

  • Text area — Describe your game idea in natural language
  • Attachment (📎) — Upload reference images or files
  • Model selector — Choose which AI model to use (see Choosing a Model)
  • Run button — Submit the prompt and start generation (shortcut: Ctrl + Enter / Cmd + Enter)
  • Tools Active — Toggle AI tools on or off before running (see AI Tools)

Using Genre Tabs

Above the preview area, genre tabs show example games by category:

Story · Survivorslike · Shoot ‘em up · Top-Down · TPS · …

Click any tab to see example games for that genre. Clicking an example game fills the prompt with that game’s original description, which you can edit and reuse.

Writing Effective Prompts

A good prompt includes:

  • Game type — “2D top-down shooter”, “3D RPG”, “puzzle game”, etc.
  • Core mechanic — What the player actually does
  • Visual style — Pixel art, cartoon, realistic, etc.
  • Platform — “playable on mobile in portrait view”, “desktop fullscreen”, etc.

Example:

Create a Vampire Survivors-like 2D action game where a magician shoots spells to eliminate enemies, using sprite sheets. Make it playable on a mobile device in portrait view.

You don’t need to describe every detail upfront. Start with a basic concept and refine iteratively inside the editor using follow-up prompts.

Running the Prompt

Write your prompt

Describe the game you want to create in the text area.

Select tools and model

Enable the AI tools you want (Image, Audio, etc.) and choose your preferred model.

Press the Run button or Ctrl+Enter. Agent8 opens the editor and begins generating your game.

Iterate

Once in the editor, continue chatting to add features, fix bugs, or change the visual style.
